Biography

Thai Sa ruled as King of Ayutthaya during a pivotal moment in Siamese history, commanding one of Southeast Asia’s most powerful kingdoms during the early 18th century. Born into royal lineage in 1678, he ascended to the throne during an era when Ayutthaya stood as a glittering center of trade, art, and political influence that rivaled European powers. His reign shaped the cultural and diplomatic landscape of the region, leaving an indelible mark on Thai governance and royal tradition.

The monarch’s life came to an end on January 13, 1733, when mouth cancer claimed him at Phra Ratchawang Boran at age 55. His body was laid to rest at the sacred Wat Phra Sri Sanphet in Pratu Chai, one of Ayutthaya’s most revered temples. Thai Sa’s legacy endures through the architectural and institutional foundations he established, cementing his place in the annals of Siamese royal history.
