Biography

Born in the industrial heart of Magnitogorsk, Gleb Panfilov became one of Soviet cinema’s most vital creative forces, wielding dual mastery as both director and screenwriter across a career that spanned the medium’s most revolutionary decades. Panfilov’s work captured the artistic pulse of the Soviet era and beyond, earning him a revered place in Russia’s film pantheon through stories that bridged the writing desk and the camera lens.

For nearly seven decades, Panfilov witnessed and shaped cinema’s evolution, his films reflecting the cultural tremors of twentieth-century Russia.
