Biography

Johann Schobert was a German composer born on January 1, 1735, in Silesia. Though his life was remarkably brief, spanning just thirty-two years, he devoted himself to musical composition during a transformative period in European music history. His work reflected the evolving styles of the eighteenth century, contributing to the rich musical landscape of his era.

Schobert spent a significant portion of his career in Paris, where he became immersed in the vibrant cultural and musical scene. The French capital offered him opportunities to develop his craft and share his compositions with audiences and patrons who appreciated his artistic vision. His time there proved formative in establishing his legacy as a composer.

Tragically, Schobert’s life was cut short on August 28, 1767, when he died in Paris from a foodborne illness. His death at such a young age meant that his compositional output, while valuable, remained limited in scope. Though the location of his burial remains unrecorded, his contributions to music endured beyond his lifetime, ensuring that his brief but dedicated career would be remembered by those who valued the artistry of his generation.
