Asaf-ud-Daula was born on September 23, 1748, in Faizabad, where he would come of age during a transformative period in Indian history. As a Nawab and wazir of Oudh in north India, he held positions of considerable influence and responsibility. His life spanned nearly fifty years of regional significance, during which he navigated the complex political landscape of eighteenth-century India with the weight of his titles and duties.
Asaf-ud-Daula’s tenure as a leader in Oudh left a lasting impression on the region. His administrative role as wazir placed him at the center of governance and decision-making. Though his life was relatively brief by modern standards, the responsibilities he carried shaped the course of his community and legacy.
He passed away on September 21, 1797, in Lucknow, just two days before his forty-ninth birthday, succumbing to edema. His final resting place was chosen with care—the Bara Imambara in Lucknow, a location of spiritual and architectural significance.
