Oichi 1547 – 1583
Biography
Oichi was born on January 1, 1547, in Nagoya during a transformative era in Japanese history. Her life spanned the late Sengoku period, a time of significant political change and conflict across the islands of Japan. Though records from this distant century are sparse, her presence in history marks an important connection to this pivotal age.
On June 14, 1583, Oichi’s life came to an end at Kitanosho Castle. She had lived thirty-six years, witnessing tremendous upheaval and change throughout her lifetime. The circumstances surrounding her final days at the castle remain largely undocumented, as is often the case with historical figures from this period whose stories have not been fully preserved.
Oichi’s legacy endures as part of the broader historical narrative of late Sengoku Japan. Though details of her life have been limited by time and the fragmentary nature of surviving records, she remains a figure worthy of remembrance. She lived through remarkable times and, in her own way, was woven into the fabric of Japanese history during one of its most dynamic periods.
