Biography
Theo de Meester was born on December 16, 1851, in Harderwijk, a historic city in the province of Overijssel in the Netherlands. He grew up during a period of significant change in Dutch society, as the country modernized and expanded its democratic institutions throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century.
De Meester devoted his life to public service as a Dutch politician, dedicating himself to the governance and welfare of his nation during a transformative era. He lived through the reign of three Dutch monarchs and witnessed the evolution of Dutch political life as suffrage expanded and new political movements emerged.
He spent his final years in The Hague, the administrative heart of the Netherlands, where he remained active in civic life. Theo de Meester passed away on December 27, 1919, at the age of sixty-eight, just days after his birthday. His long career in politics reflected his commitment to serving the Dutch people during one of the most dynamic periods in the nation’s modern history.
