Biography

Hayk Bzhishkyan was born on February 18, 1887, in Tabriz, where he would spend his formative years before pursuing a military career. He rose through the ranks to become a general in the Soviet Army, representing a generation of Armenian military officers who served during a transformative period in Soviet history. His professional dedication and service reflected the complex experiences of many minority officers navigating the demands of the Soviet military establishment.

General Bzhishkyan’s life ended tragically on December 11, 1937, during one of the most difficult chapters of Soviet history. He was executed at the Butovo firing range, a site that witnessed countless deaths during Stalin’s Great Purge. His remains were interred at the Kommunarka shooting ground in Sosenskoye, where many others who fell during this period were laid to rest. Though the exact circumstances of his death remain unrecorded in available sources, his memory stands as part of the historical record of those who suffered during this era.
