Born in the Rif region of North Africa in 1882, Abd el-Krim emerged as one of the early twentieth century’s most commanding nationalist leaders. From 1921 to 1926, he served as president of the Rif Republic, carving out an independent state during a pivotal era when European powers dominated the continent.
