Abdallah of Morocco 1694 – 1757
Biography
Abdallah of Morocco was born on January 1, 1694, in the imperial city of Meknes during a period of significant transformation in the Moroccan sultanate. He would go on to become one of the most consequential rulers of his era, ascending to the throne on multiple occasions throughout his life. His political career spanned nearly three decades, during which he navigated the complex dynamics of Moroccan governance and regional politics.
From 1729 onward, Abdallah held the sultanate six times, a pattern reflecting the turbulent nature of Moroccan political succession during the 18th century. His repeated ascensions and transitions of power demonstrate the intensity of dynastic rivalries and factional disputes that characterized the period. Despite the instability that marked his reign, Abdallah maintained his influence and authority through shifting circumstances.
Abdallah spent his final years in Fez, another of Morocco’s great imperial cities, where he died on November 10, 1757, at an advanced age. His long life and enduring presence in Moroccan politics left a lasting mark on the sultanate’s history. Though the specific circumstances surrounding his death remain unrecorded, his legacy encompasses decades of rule during a pivotal era in Morocco’s past.
