Biography

Alexander Kutepov was born on September 28, 1882, in Cherepovets, Russia, during a period of significant change in his homeland. He rose to prominence as both a military leader and political figure, serving his country during turbulent times that would reshape the nation’s future. His life spanned the final decades of Imperial Russia and the revolutionary upheaval that followed.

On January 26, 1930, Kutepov passed away in Moscow at the age of 47. His death marked the end of a life lived during Russia’s most transformative era. In recognition of his place in history, he was laid to rest at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois Russian Cemetery in France, a cemetery that became the final resting place for many Russian émigrés and figures displaced by the revolution.

Kutepov’s legacy remains connected to this pivotal period in Russian history. Though his final years were spent far from his birthplace, his burial in the Russian cemetery in France reflects the diaspora of Russian leadership that scattered across Europe in the twentieth century. He is remembered as a figure of his complex and consequential time.
