Biography

Alfred Raoul was born on December 15, 1938, in Pointe-Noire, a major port city in Congo-Brazzaville. He grew up during a formative period in his nation’s history, as Congo-Brazzaville navigated the early years following independence. His early life in this vibrant coastal community shaped his character and future path toward public service.

Raoul rose to prominence in Congolese politics, ultimately serving as President of Congo-Brazzaville from 1968 to 1969. During this period, he worked within the complex political landscape of Central Africa during the Cold War era.

After leaving office, Raoul eventually relocated to Paris, where he spent his later years. He passed away on July 16, 1999, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris at the age of 60. His life bridged two continents and reflected the experiences of those who shaped Congo-Brazzaville during its critical early decades of independence.
