Biography

Andrey Osterman was born on July 9, 1687, in Bochum, entering a world of significant change and opportunity. He would go on to become a notable figure within the Russian nobility, serving the state during a formative period in its history. Though born in the German Rhineland, Osterman’s life became intimately connected to the Russian Empire, where he would establish his legacy and influence.

Osterman devoted his career to service within Russia’s aristocratic and governmental circles. His life spanned six decades marked by dedication to the realm. On May 31, 1747, his long life came to an end in Beryozovo, a remote region in the far north of Russia. His death concluded a remarkable journey that had taken him from his birthplace in Western Europe to the vast reaches of the Russian Empire.

Osterman was laid to rest in Tyumen Oblast, in what is now the Russian Federation. His burial place reflects the eastern territories where much of his life’s work had been conducted. Though specific details of his achievements remain less widely documented than some of his contemporaries, Osterman’s existence as a servant of Russia during the early eighteenth century secured his place within the annals of Russian noble history.
