Anne Mowbray, 8th Countess of Norfolk 1472 – 1481
Biography
Anne Mowbray was born on December 10, 1472, in Suffolk, into one of England’s most distinguished noble families. As the 8th Countess of Norfolk in her own right, she held considerable rank and standing in the realm during the reign of King Edward IV. Though her life was marked by the privileges of her station, it would prove remarkably brief.
Anne passed away on November 19, 1481, at Greenwich, at just eight years of age. Her death marked the end of a young life lived amid the grandeur and responsibilities of the English nobility. Despite her tender years, her position and lineage ensured that her memory would be preserved with appropriate dignity.
The respect afforded to her station was reflected in her final resting place. Anne was interred at Westminster Abbey, the venerable burial ground of monarchs and England’s most prominent figures. Her entombment there stands as a testament to the significance of her noble rank and the esteem in which her family was held during this pivotal period of English history.
