Archduke Maximilian Eugen of Austria was born on April 13, 1895, in Vienna, during the twilight years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a member of the imperial Habsburg family, he held the distinguished title of Archduke and occupied an important place within Austria’s aristocratic circles throughout his lifetime.

Maximilian Eugen lived through a period of extraordinary historical transformation, witnessing the empire of his birth give way to the modern European landscape of the twentieth century.
