Arvid Kramer 1956 – 2026
Biography
# Arvid Kramer
Basketball journeyman Arvid Kramer made his most memorable mark on the NBA in the most unconventional way: by being drafted twice in expansion drafts and never suiting up for either team. The towering 6’9″ center became the Miami Heat’s first overall pick in their historic 1988 expansion draft—a distinction he earned at the remarkable age of 31, already a seasoned pro.
Kramer’s career defied easy categorization. As the only player ever selected in two expansion drafts without actually playing for those franchises, he carved out a unique niche in basketball history. The 220-pound center spent his playing days as a stalwart at the position, leaving an indelible if unconventional legacy in the sport.
Kramer, born October 2, 1956, in Fulda, passed away on October 22, 2026.
