Auguste of Baden-Baden 1704 – 1726
Biography
Auguste of Baden-Baden was born on November 10, 1704, at Schloss Johannisburg, entering a world of royal privilege and expectation. As a German princess, she carried the distinguished heritage of her family and the responsibilities that accompanied her elevated station. Her life, though brief, was marked by the experiences and circumstances common to nobility of her era.
On August 8, 1726, Auguste’s life came to an unexpected end at the Palais-Royal, taken by puerperal disorders—a tragic complication following childbirth that claimed many women of her time, regardless of their rank or access to care. Her death at just twenty-one years old cut short a life that had only begun to unfold its possibilities.
Auguste was laid to rest at the Église du Val-de-Grâce in Paris’s 5th arrondissement, where her remains were committed to this place of dignity and remembrance. Though her years were few, she left behind a legacy as a member of the Baden-Baden line, and her memory endures through the historical record of her family and the sacred ground where she was interred.
