Billy Drago 1946 – 2019

Biography

Billy Drago made his mark as a character actor who became a fixture on screen for decades, bringing menace and complexity to roles across film and television. The Kansas native built a career on his ability to inhabit morally ambiguous characters, becoming the kind of performer audiences recognized instantly—the guy who could steal a scene with a glance. His work spanned multiple decades, proving his staying power in a notoriously fickle industry.

Drago’s dedication to his craft earned him respect among peers and a loyal following among viewers who appreciated his distinctive screen presence. Whether playing villains, authority figures, or morally gray characters, he brought authenticity and depth to every role. His performances left an indelible mark on the shows and films he graced, cementing his legacy as a working actor who never stopped delivering.

When Drago passed away from a stroke on June 24, 2019, at 72, the entertainment world lost a reliable talent who’d earned his place in television and film history. He was laid to rest in Hugoton Cemetery in his native Kansas, returning to the community where his journey began. His career stands as a testament to persistence and professional excellence.
