Bobojon Ghafurov 1908 – 1977

Biography

Bobojon Ghafurov was born on December 31, 1908, in Isfisor, a town in what would become Tajikistan. He came of age during a transformative period in Central Asian history, as the region underwent significant political and social changes throughout the twentieth century. His life spanned nearly seven decades of remarkable historical developments in his homeland.

Ghafurov devoted his career to public service as a Tajik politician, working during the Soviet era when Tajikistan was developing its modern institutions and governance. Through his work in politics, he participated in the shaping of his nation during a formative time in its history. His contributions to Tajik public life reflected his commitment to his country and community.

He spent his final years in Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital, where he passed away on July 12, 1977, at the age of sixty-eight. His remains were laid to rest at Luchob Park in Dushanbe, a final resting place befitting a man of his stature in Tajik society. Ghafurov’s legacy remains part of Tajikistan’s political history during the mid-twentieth century.
