Biography

Camille Doncieux was born on January 15, 1847, in Lyon, France, during a period of great artistic flourishing. Her life was intertwined with the world of French art, where she worked as an artists’ model—a profession that placed her at the heart of creative circles and studios throughout her era. Though her time on earth was relatively brief, she left an impression on those who knew her and those whose works she helped inspire.

Camille spent her formative and adult years contributing to the artistic community, serving as a model for painters and sculptors who sought to capture beauty and form on canvas and in stone. This work connected her to the vibrant cultural landscape of nineteenth-century France, a period when artistic innovation was reshaping European culture.

On September 5, 1879, Camille passed away in Vétheuil at the age of thirty-two, succumbing to cancer. She was laid to rest in the Vetheuil cemetery, where she remains in her adopted village. Though her life was cut short by illness, Camille’s presence in the artistic world of her time ensured that her legacy would endure through the works she helped create.
