Biography

Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, was born on December 9, 1764, at Gordon Castle, entering a life of privilege and responsibility befitting his distinguished rank. Throughout his lifetime, he navigated the complex world of British aristocracy and public service, following the path expected of a nobleman of his standing and lineage.

As a British politician, the Duke occupied a significant place in the governance and social structures of his era. His position afforded him influence in matters of state and society, though the historical record preserves limited details of his specific legislative contributions and political endeavors.

On August 28, 1819, at Richmond, the Duke’s life was cut short by rabies—a tragic and uncommon end for a man of his station. His remains were interred at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in La Cité-Limoilou, Canada, a final resting place that reflects the far-reaching connections of the British aristocracy during this period.
