Biography

Ermengarde of Anjou was born on January 1, 1067, in the region of Anjou, France, into a family of considerable prominence and influence. Her early years were shaped by the noble traditions and political dynamics of medieval France during a time of significant change and development in European feudal society.

Throughout her life, Ermengarde held the distinguished title of Duchess of Britain, a position of considerable authority and responsibility. As duchess, she would have been involved in the governance and affairs of the Breton realm, navigating the complex relationships between the various noble houses of the period.

In her later years, Ermengarde undertook a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a journey that reflected the deep religious devotion characteristic of many medieval nobles. She passed away on June 8, 1146, in Jerusalem, far from her homeland.
