Biography

Ferdinando Bertoni was born on August 15, 1725, in Salò, a picturesque town on the shores of Lake Garda in northern Italy. He came of age during the height of the Classical period, a time of remarkable musical innovation and refinement across Europe. His talents as both a composer and organist would come to define a long and productive career spanning the latter half of the eighteenth century and into the early years of the nineteenth.

Throughout his life, Bertoni devoted himself to the craft of music-making, contributing to the rich cultural heritage of his native Italy. As an organist, he would have been intimately familiar with the liturgical traditions of the Church, while his work as a composer allowed him to explore the forms and styles that captivated audiences of his era. The combination of these two roles made him a valued figure in Italian musical circles.

Ferdinando Bertoni lived to an advanced age, passing away on December 1, 1813, in Desenzano del Garda, another charming settlement on Lake Garda not far from his birthplace. His nearly ninety years spanned one of the most transformative periods in European musical history, and he remained active in his profession throughout much of his life, leaving behind a legacy as both performer and creator.
