Biography

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti exploded onto the early twentieth-century art scene as a poet and provocateur who refused to let tradition stand in his way. He didn’t just write about modernity—he weaponized it, channeling the raw energy of contemporary life into every manifesto, poem, and editorial decision he made.

Marinetti earned his place in cultural history as the firebrand founder of Futurism, a movement that torched the rulebook on what art could be. He summoned painters, sculptors, and writers to abandon the past and embrace velocity, violence, and vitality. Through relentless promotion and fearless experimentation, he fundamentally reshaped how European artists approached their work, inspiring generations to shatter conventions and reimagine creative possibility.

Marinetti died on December 2, 1944, from a heart attack in Bellagio, Italy. His remains rest in Milan’s monumental cemetery—a final resting place befitting the man whose restless vision continues to electrify the art world decades after his death.
