Florence Griffith Joyner, known worldwide as Flo-Jo, was an American sprinter and the fastest woman in recorded history. Born in Los Angeles, she grew up in the Watts neighbourhood and ran at California State University, Northridge, and the University of California, Los Angeles. After winning silver in the 200 metres at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, she returned to the track in spectacular fashion in 1988.
