Born in Monaco in 1878, Schreker channeled his pan-European experiences into compositions that captured the rich cultural currents swirling through turn-of-the-century Vienna and beyond. His distinctive voice and technical mastery established him as a towering figure in classical music during one of history’s most transformative periods.
Schreker poured his artistic vision into an impressive body of work that cemented his place in the Austrian musical tradition. His compositions stood as meaningful expressions of creative ambition—sophisticated, technically accomplished pieces that resonated across Europe’s concert halls and opera houses. He dedicated himself entirely to the craft, leaving behind a legacy that would outlast the turbulent century that followed.
The composer’s remarkable journey ended abruptly on March 21, 1934, when a heart attack claimed him in Berlin—just two days shy of his fifty-sixth birthday. He was laid to rest at Waldfriedhof Dahlem, where music lovers continue to honor his enduring contributions to classical music.
