Biography

Georg Ratzinger was born on January 15, 1924, in the small Bavarian town of Pleiskirchen. From his earliest years, he developed a deep commitment to both music and faith—two passions that would define his entire life. His formative years in rural Bavaria shaped a character marked by devotion and artistic sensibility.

Throughout his life, Georg pursued dual vocations as both a musician and a Catholic priest. These two paths intertwined beautifully in his work, allowing him to serve his community through sacred music and spiritual leadership. His dedication to the priesthood and his musical gifts made him a valued member of his parish and the broader religious community in Bavaria.

Georg spent much of his later life in Regensburg, where he continued his ministry and musical pursuits. On July 1, 2020, he passed away at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service. He was laid to rest at Unterer Katholischer Friedhof in Regensburg, the city that had been his home in his final years. Those who knew Georg remembered him as a man who brought together the spiritual and artistic dimensions of human experience.
