Gisèle Prassinos 1920 – 2015
Biography
Gisèle Prassinos emerged from Constantinople as one of France’s most intriguing modernist voices, a polymath who refused to be pinned down by a single medium. Born into a cosmopolitan world in 1920, she became a fixture of the Parisian avant-garde, channeling surrealist energy into her work across visual art, literature, and design. Her fearless experimentation and refusal to follow conventional artistic paths made her a quietly revolutionary figure in twentieth-century French culture.
Throughout her long creative life, Prassinos carved out a distinctive space in the modernist landscape, blending influences and disciplines in ways that challenged artistic boundaries. She remained deeply connected to Paris, the city that nurtured her vision and where she spent her final decades. When she passed away in the 13th arrondissement in 2015 at ninety-five, she left behind a legacy of innovation and artistic courage that continues to inspire those who encounter her boundary-pushing work.
