Biography

Born into Renaissance Florence’s most powerful dynasty, Giuliano de’ Medici embodied the glamour and influence of his legendary family. A member of the Medici clan during their golden age of artistic patronage and political dominance, he came of age surrounded by the wealth, culture, and intrigue that made Florence the jewel of 15th-century Italy. His name alone carried weight in a city where the Medici name meant everything.

On May 5, 1478, that promise was violently erased. The twenty-four-year-old was brutally stabbed during services at Florence Cathedral in a shocking assassination that stunned the city. The attack—a pivotal moment in Florentine history—cut short a life that had barely begun to unfold. Giuliano was entombed in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the family’s spiritual home, where generations of Medici rested.

Though his years were few, Giuliano’s tragic death cemented his place in Renaissance legend, a symbol of the danger and drama that lurked beneath Florence’s artistic splendor.
