Grigory Gershuni 1870 – 1908
Biography
Grigory Gershuni was born on February 18, 1870, in Kaunas, a city in the Russian Empire. He became a prominent figure in the Russian revolutionary movement during a tumultuous period of social and political upheaval. Driven by conviction and commitment to radical change, Gershuni dedicated his life to challenging the political order of his time and working toward revolutionary ideals.
Throughout his life, Gershuni remained active in revolutionary circles, contributing to the movements that shaped late 19th-century Russian political thought. His work placed him among those willing to risk much for their beliefs during an era of intense government repression and ideological ferment.
Gershuni’s life was cut short by tuberculosis, which claimed him on March 16, 1908, in Zurich, Switzerland, at just thirty-seven years of age. His final years spent abroad reflect the reality faced by many revolutionaries of his era, who often sought refuge in European exile. He was laid to rest at Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris, where his grave stands as a quiet memorial to a life devoted to revolutionary ideals during one of history’s most transformative periods.
