Hermann Fegelein 1906 – 1945
Biography
Hermann Fegelein rose through the ranks of Nazi Germany’s military establishment to become a lieutenant general in the Waffen-SS, achieving one of the highest positions within the Third Reich’s armed forces. His rapid ascent reflected the turbulent trajectory of his era—a Bavarian-born officer who climbed the hierarchy during the Nazi regime’s expansion and warfare across Europe.
As the Third Reich crumbled in spring 1945, Fegelein found himself in Berlin during the city’s final apocalyptic siege. On April 29, 1945—just days before Germany’s unconditional surrender—he was killed by gunshot wound amid the chaos consuming the capital. Like countless others lost in those final devastating weeks, his remains were never formally accounted for, a haunting footnote to a life consumed by history’s darkest chapter.
