Biography

Holger Meins was born on October 26, 1941, in the Eimsbüttel district of Hamburg, Germany. He came of age during a period of profound social and political upheaval in post-war Germany, a time when many young people questioned the foundations of their society and sought radical change. His life would be defined by his passionate commitment to revolutionary ideals and his willingness to take extraordinary measures in pursuit of his political convictions.

As a filmmaker and actor, Meins contributed to the cultural landscape of 1960s Germany while simultaneously becoming involved in radical political movements. His dual engagement with art and activism reflected the deep currents of protest that characterized his generation, particularly the intense debates about Germany’s Nazi past and its present direction.

On November 9, 1974, Meins died in Wittlich at the age of 33 as a result of a hunger strike. His death marked a tragic endpoint to a life spent in fierce opposition to what he perceived as systemic injustice. Though his life was brief and marked by conflict, Meins remains a significant, if controversial, figure in the history of German radicalism and the complex legacy of 1970s activism.
