István Géczi 1944 – 2018

Biography

István Géczi was born on March 16, 1944, in the small Hungarian town of Sajóörös. He would go on to become a notable figure in Hungarian football, dedicating much of his life to the sport that defined his career and left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Throughout his years in football, Géczi contributed to the rich sporting heritage of Hungary during a formative period in the nation’s athletic history. His work in the sport reflected the passion and commitment he brought to everything he undertook, earning him respect within the Hungarian athletic community.

On September 10, 2018, Géczi passed away in Budapest at the age of 74, following complications from cerebrovascular disease. His final resting place is at St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest’s District V, a site of significance that reflects the esteem in which he was held. Though he has passed, István Géczi’s memory endures among those who knew him and within the history of Hungarian football.
