Biography

István Tóth was born on July 28, 1891, in Budapest, Hungary, during a period of cultural flourishing in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He grew up in the Hungarian capital, where he would develop his passion for association football, a sport that was gaining popularity across Europe during the late nineteenth century.

Throughout his life, Tóth dedicated himself to the sport of football, becoming known as a player during a formative era for Hungarian athletics. He lived through tremendous historical upheaval, witnessing the transformation of his nation across multiple decades and through two world wars.

István Tóth remained a resident of Budapest throughout his life, the city of his birth serving as his home for all fifty-three years. He passed away on February 6, 1945, during the final months of World War II. He was laid to rest at Fiume Road Graveyard in Budapest, where his memory endures among those who knew him and appreciated his contributions to Hungarian football during his era.
