Biography

Jean Agélou was a French photographer born on October 16, 1878, in Alexandria. He devoted his life to the visual arts during a transformative period in photographic history, when the medium was still establishing itself as a serious artistic and documentary practice. His work reflected the sensibilities of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a time of remarkable innovation in both technique and artistic vision.

Though details of his specific photographic subjects and style remain limited in historical record, Agélou represents an important figure in French photography of his era. He worked during decades when photographers were expanding the boundaries of their craft, experimenting with new methods and exploring diverse subjects that captured the spirit of their times.

Agélou’s life was cut short on August 2, 1921, when he died in a traffic collision in Autry-le-Châtel.
