Biography

Johannes Pääsuke was born on March 30, 1892, in Tartu, Estonia, during a time of significant cultural and artistic development in the region. He devoted his creative talents to the emerging fields of photography and filmmaking, professions that were still relatively new to Estonia during the early twentieth century. Through these visual arts, Pääsuke contributed to the growing cultural documentation of his nation during a transformative period in its history.

Despite his promise as an artist, Pääsuke’s life was cut tragically short. On January 8, 1918, at just twenty-five years old, he died in Vorsha as a result of a railway accident involving a collision.
