Biography

Born in Chelsea in 1919, Jon Pertwee became a fixture of British entertainment across eight decades, mastering stage, screen, and voice work with equal flair. His career spanned from early theatrical performances through radio comedy and dramatic television roles, building a reputation as a versatile performer who could anchor both comedic and serious material with genuine presence and skill.

Pertwee’s ability to shift seamlessly between disciplines—theatrical gravitas one moment, comedic timing the next—made him a reliable presence in the British entertainment landscape. Whether delivering lines on stage, performing in films, or bringing characters to life through voiceover work, he approached each project with the same professional dedication and distinctive energy that kept audiences engaged across generations.

After a lifetime of creative work that saw him remain active well into his later years, Pertwee died of a heart attack in May 1996 at age 76. He was buried at Putney Vale Cemetery in London, the city where his extraordinary career began nearly eighty years before.
