Biography

Kirill Razumovsky was born on March 29, 1728, in Lemeshi, a settlement in the Kozeletskii raion. He rose to prominence in the Cossack world, ultimately serving as Hetman of the Zaporizhian Host—a position of significant leadership and responsibility within the military and political structure of the Cossack community. His tenure reflected the complex dynamics of Ukrainian Cossack society during the eighteenth century.

Razumovsky lived through a transformative period in Eastern European history, witnessing the rise of imperial powers and the changing fortunes of the Cossack host. His leadership during these tumultuous years would have required considerable political acumen and understanding of the delicate balance between Cossack autonomy and the pressures of neighboring empires. He spent his final years in Baturyn, a historically significant Cossack center, where he passed away on January 21, 1803, at the age of seventy-four.

Razumovsky’s life spanned most of the eighteenth century, a crucial period for Cossack history and Ukrainian identity. Though detailed records of his later years remain sparse, his legacy endures as part of the broader narrative of Cossack leadership and the region’s rich cultural heritage.
