Koloman Gögh 1948 – 1995
Biography
Koloman Gögh embodied the spirit of Czechoslovak football during the Cold War era, coming of age as a footballer in a nation where the sport ran deep in the cultural bloodstream. Born in Kladno in 1948, Gögh represented a generation of Central European athletes whose contributions to the game remain woven into their country’s sporting fabric, even as their individual stories have grown quieter with time.
On November 11, 1995, Gögh’s life was abruptly cut short in a traffic collision in Gattendorf, leaving him just shy of his 48th birthday. Though the spotlight may have long since moved on from his playing days, his memory endures among those who witnessed his career and within the annals of Czechoslovak football history. He was laid to rest at Slávičie údolie cemetery in Karlova Ves, Slovakia, a final resting place befitting a man who gave his years to the beautiful game.
