Lloyd Avery II 1969 – 2005
Biography
Lloyd Avery II became a fixture in ’90s crime dramas and action films, commanding screen presence in gritty roles that matched his South Los Angeles roots. His breakthrough came through recurring appearances on shows like *In the Heat of the Night* and *21 Jump Street*, where he specialized in playing menacing antagonists and hardened criminals—parts that felt disturbingly authentic.
But Avery’s career trajectory took a dark turn that overshadowed his Hollywood work. In 2000, he was convicted of murder, transforming him from character actor into a cautionary tale about the violence that sometimes followed his on-screen personas into real life. The contradiction between his craft and his crimes became inescapable.
He died in 2005 at age 36, killed by blunt trauma while incarcerated in Crescent City. Avery remains a complicated figure in entertainment history—a talented performer whose legacy was forever fractured by the crimes that defined his final years more than any role ever could.
