Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulême

Biography

Born into the opulence of Versailles in 1775, Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulême inherited one of France’s most prestigious titles during history’s most turbulent era. A member of the storied French royal family, he navigated the treacherous waters of revolution, restoration, and political upheaval that would define his nearly seven decades on Earth. His lineage and position placed him at the epicenter of European aristocratic circles, where his every move reflected the broader struggles of the nobility to survive a continent in flux.

The Duke embodied the resilience required of France’s elite during an age that tested royal authority to its limits. His life spanned the collapse and resurrection of the monarchy itself—witnessing transformations that would forever alter the landscape of European power. When he died in Gorizia in 1844, his body was laid to rest in the Annunciation Parish Church in Nova Gorica, a final resting place far from the grandeur of his birthright, yet a testament to his enduring significance in aristocratic history.
