At just 26, Ashton’s life was cut short by pneumocystis pneumonia on February 11, 1987, a tragedy that claimed countless young activists during the AIDS crisis. His death marked a devastating loss for the movement he’d helped energize. Yet his legacy endured—a testament to the power of early activism and the lives lost to an epidemic that demanded justice. He was laid to rest at Lambeth Cemetery in London, remembered as a fierce advocate who refused to be silenced.
