Biography

Nasr of Granada was born on November 9, 1287, in the city of Granada, during a transformative period in medieval Iberia. He would come of age during an era of significant political change, eventually rising to leadership of the Emirate of Granada, one of the last Islamic states on the Iberian Peninsula.

From 1309 to 1314, Nasr served as ruler of the Emirate of Granada, a position that reflected both the complexity and fragility of political power in his time. His reign occurred during a crucial chapter in the history of Al-Andalus, as Christian kingdoms pressed from the north and internal divisions tested the stability of Muslim-held territories.

Nasr’s life ended on November 24, 1322, in the city of Guadix, when he was thirty-five years old. Though details of his final years remain sparse in historical record, his tenure as emir left him a notable figure in the political landscape of medieval Granada. His years of rule represent an important period in the Emirate’s history, bridging different eras of governance and conflict in medieval Spain.
