Nico 1938 – 1988
Biography
Born in Cologne in 1938, Nico carved out a singular artistic path across five decades, moving fluidly between music and film with the kind of creative restlessness that defined her generation. She built an international presence while remaining rooted in her German heritage, becoming a fixture in European cultural circles and earning recognition for her distinctive contributions to both sound and cinema.
On a summer day in Ibiza in 1988, a bicycle accident abruptly ended Nico’s life at forty-nine. The tragedy cut short an artist still engaged with her craft, leaving behind a legacy that spanned multiple disciplines and continents. She was laid to rest in Berlin at Friedhof Grunewald-Forst, returning finally to the homeland that had always remained central to her identity and artistic vision.
