Prince Georg of Bavaria

Biography

Prince Georg of Bavaria was born on April 2, 1880, in Munich, during a period of significant change for the Bavarian kingdom. As a member of the Bavarian royal house, he came of age during the final decades of the monarchy and witnessed the dramatic transformations that would reshape Europe throughout his lifetime. His early years were marked by the traditions and privileges of royal life in Bavaria’s cultural capital.

Prince Georg’s life spanned more than six decades of European history, from the height of imperial Germany through two world wars and into the modern era. Though records of his personal accomplishments and activities remain limited, his position within the Bavarian nobility meant he lived through some of history’s most pivotal moments. He maintained connections to Munich and the broader European aristocratic community throughout his life.

In his later years, Prince Georg lived in Rome, where he spent his final days. He passed away on May 31, 1943, during World War II. His final resting place was chosen with care: the Campo Santo Teutonico in Rome, a historic cemetery that reflects both his faith and his ties to German-speaking Europe. There he was laid to rest, concluding a life that bridged the old world of Bavarian monarchy and the tumultuous twentieth century.
