Biography

Rachel Cohen-Kagan was born on February 19, 1888, in Odesa, a vibrant port city on the Black Sea. Her life spanned nearly a century of profound historical transformation, from the late Russian Empire through the establishment and development of the modern State of Israel. This remarkable journey from Eastern Europe to the Mediterranean shaped her perspective and commitment to public service.

In her adopted homeland, Rachel devoted herself to political life, becoming an active voice in Israeli governance during formative years of the nation. Her career reflected the pioneering spirit of her generation—women and men who left their birthplaces to help build a new society. Through her work in politics, she contributed to the development of institutions and policies that would define the young state.
