Biography

Rick Davies was the powerhouse keyboardist and co-founder of Supertramp, the British rock band that dominated the ’70s with elaborate, theatrical prog-rock hits like “Breakfast in America” and “Crime of the Century.” With his distinctive voice and virtuosic keyboard work, Davies helped craft some of the era’s most ambitious and commercially successful albums, blending complex arrangements with infectious melodies that defined a generation’s sound.

From his Swindon roots to international stardom, Davies proved himself a consummate musician—equally comfortable on synths, piano, and vocals. Supertramp’s lush production and clever lyrics made them stadium-filling superstars, and Davies remained the creative engine throughout the band’s evolution. Whether reuniting for tours or pursuing solo work, he stayed committed to his craft well into his later years, cementing his legacy as one of rock’s most inventive voices.

Davies passed away on September 6, 2025, at age 80, succumbing to multiple myeloma. His influence on progressive rock and pop endures through the timeless albums he created and the countless musicians he inspired.
