South Korea’s 16th president, Roh Moo-hyun rose from humble beginnings in Bongha Village to lead one of Asia’s most dynamic democracies. A former human rights lawyer turned politician, Roh brought an outsider’s reformist energy to the Blue House, championing progressive policies and reshaping Seoul’s relationship with Washington during a turbulent period of Korean history. His presidency marked a generational shift in South Korean politics, embodying the aspirations of a nation rapidly modernizing under his watch.

Roh’s tenure proved transformative yet contentious, as he navigated North Korea diplomacy, economic challenges, and deep political divisions.
