Biography

Rudolf Hrušínský was born on October 17, 1920, in the small town of Nová Včelnice, where he began a life that would span nearly seventy-four years. He would go on to become a respected figure in Czech cultural life, dedicating himself to the performing arts during a transformative period in his nation’s history.

Throughout his career, Hrušínský worked as both an actor and director, contributing to Czech theater and film during the twentieth century. His dual roles in these creative fields allowed him to shape performances both in front of and behind the camera, earning him a place in the country’s artistic heritage.

Hrušínský spent much of his professional life in Prague, the cultural heart of Czechoslovakia. He passed away on April 13, 1994, in the capital city where he had built his career. His final resting place is Olšany Cemetery in Prague, a historic burial ground that honors many prominent figures of Czech culture and history.
