Biography

Tibor Szamuely was born on December 27, 1890, in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, during a transformative period in Central European history. He grew to become a notable figure in Hungarian political life, dedicating himself to public service during one of the nation’s most turbulent eras. His career unfolded against the backdrop of the final years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the revolutionary changes that followed the First World War.

Szamuely’s life was cut tragically short when he died on August 2, 1919, in Lichtenwörth, at just twenty-eight years of age. His death occurred during a particularly volatile time in Hungarian history, mere months after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and amid the dramatic political upheavals of the postwar period. Though his time was brief, Szamuely left an imprint on the political landscape of his era, representing the idealism and turbulence of a generation caught between empires and revolutions.

Today, Tibor Szamuely is remembered as part of Hungary’s complex and often challenging political heritage from this pivotal moment in European history.
