Vajiravudh

Biography

Born into the Grand Palace itself on January 1, 1881, Vajiravudh stepped into one of Asia’s most pivotal thrones in 1910, inheriting a kingdom navigating the treacherous waters of early twentieth-century modernization. His fifteen-year reign became a defining chapter in Siamese history—a period when the nation grappled with regional transformation and the pressing demands of the modern world. Vajiravudh’s tenure left an indelible mark on the kingdom’s development during this critical era.

On November 25, 1925, Vajiravudh died at Chakraphat Phiman Throne Hall from a gastrointestinal disease, concluding a reign that had reshaped Siamese governance and culture. His final resting place at Phra Pathommachedi—one of Thailand’s most spiritually significant sites—cemented his legacy within the nation’s collective memory. More than a century later, his contributions to the kingdom endure as a testament to his influence during one of Siam’s most consequential periods.
